Stone State ParkStone State Park is located in the northwest corner of Sioux City, IA. Daniel Hector Talbot used the land to raise elk, bison, bear, wolves, and even monkeys. In 1895, Thomas Jefferson Stone bought the land from Talbot, and his son developed it into a park. This rugged beauty brings all types to enjoy its views of woodland valleys, prairie, mountainous ridges, and the Big Sioux River. Featuring 8 miles of hiking and cross-country skiing trails, 6 miles of equestrian trails, as well as 6 miles of mountain bike and snowmobile trails, Stone State Park is perfect for nature explorers of all types. The Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center exhibits interpretive displays, a 400-gallon aquarium, and a children’s area. Picnic areas are throughout the park with gorgeous scenic backdrops. 30 camp sites (10 of which have electric hook-ups), the Stone Lodge for larger gatherings (with refrigerator, microwave, and restrooms), and a large youth group campsite make Stone State Park quite hospitable for groups of all sizes. |
