DeSoto National Wildlife RefugeLocated about a half hour from Omaha, Nebraska, along the Missouri River floodplain in Iowa, lies the DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge is filled with things to see and do. Take a scenic drive to view the beautiful sites of DeSoto Lake and the Missouri River, as well as woods, wildlife, grasslands, ponds, and foliage. There are also numerous hiking trails along the river or lake, through the woods or near the edge of the grasslands. The visitor center offers history exhibits, including artifacts from the Steamboat Bertrand. Spend a leisurely day boating. DeSoto Lake and the Missouri River also provide numerous fishing opportunities, and fishing can be done by boat or along the banks of the lake. Catfish, crappie, walleye, large-mouth bass, bluegill, carp and buffalo fish are yours for the taking. There are also controlled hunting opportunities. |
