Squaw Creek National Wildlife RefugeNestled in the historic Missouri River floodplain is the Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge in Mound City, Missouri. The refuge is a resting, feeding and breeding ground for many migratory birds and is also home to various other species of wildlife as well. The refuge provides a wintering area for bald eagles and snow geese, and is host to over 300 species of birds, over 30 species of mammals and about 35 amphibian and reptile species. Visitors can enjoy the surrounding beauty of nature while at the Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge by spending some time hiking, fishing, hunting for deer (this is a managed hunt), becoming educated about environmental factors, or simply observing the diversity of wildlife in the area. There is also a self guided auto tour route to take in some of the sites and view the wildlife. |
