Fort LeavenworthFort Leavenworth was established in 1827 and is the oldest active Army post west of the Mississippi River. Fort Leavenworth, located in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, is considered one of the most significant historic military installations in the United States and contains a National Historic Landmark District that spans 213 acres of the complex. The fort’s initial missions were based on protecting trade caravans over the Santa Fe Trail, assisting with the relocation of American Indians onto reservations, and serving as a base of exploration in the West. The post is now considered the Intellectual Center of the Army. There are many recreational activities in the area, cultural and historical attractions, dining, shopping and more.
