Wyandotte County Historical Society and MuseumLooking for news about Kansas City, Kansas, between 1857 and 1946? Read all about it here, at the Wyandotte County Historical Society and Museum, where the city’s newspapers are archived on microfilm. The museum, located in Bonner Springs, houses one of the nation’s remaining Native American dugout canoes, along with documents pertaining to the Wyandotte and Delaware Indian tribes. A rare 1903 American LaFrance steam fire engine is also on display. An extensive photo collection of early Kansas City and Wyandotte County includes pictures of the Northwestern Railroad and assembly line photographs of the North American Aviation Plant, where B-25 bombers were built during World War II. In front of the museum, a monument honors plant employees who crafted 6,608 of the famed B-25s. After a leisurely day at the museum, pick up the pace by watching NASCAR racing at Kansas Speedway. |
