Spalding Visitor Center, Nez Perce National Historical ParkThe Nez Perce National Historical Park has thirty-eight sites spread across four states. Here you can trace the steps of the Nez Perce Native Americans, the Lewis and Clark Trail, and the first missionaries in the Clearwater River settlement area. Stop in at the visitors center located in Spalding Spring, Idaho for information about the site and its other activities. The museum features a park film, Nez Perce – Portrait of a People, and exhibits a fascinating collection of clothing, tools, weapons, and ceremonial objects. During Memorial Day to Labor Day the park staff offers special walks, talks, museum tours and ti-pi pitching demonstrations. When planing your summer visit be sure to include a picnic to the Big Hole National Battlefield and then to the Bear Paw Battlefield where in 1877 Chief Joseph spoke his immortal words, “From where the sun now stands, I will fight no more forever.” |
