Hamilton Island Boat RampJust downstream from the Bonneville Lock and Dam, along the Columbia River is the Hamilton Island Boat Ramp. The public access boat ramp is situated on the Washington side of the river within the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area and is near the former location of the lower end of the Cascade Rapids. Right across the river on the Oregon side are the magnificent Multnomah Falls and Wahclella Falls. Lewis & Clark referred to the location as “Strawberry Island”, but the area is now known as Hamilton Island. The Fort Cascades National Historic Site is nearby and offers a hiking trail, complete with interpretive signs. There is parking and a restroom located at the site of the boat ramp. |
