Two Rivers National Wildlife RefugeTwo Rivers National Wildlife Refuge is located near the Mississippi and Illinois rivers and is one of five refuges that is part of the Mark Twain National Wildlife Refuge Complex which spans three sates (Iowa, Illinois and Mississippi). There are about 8,500 acres separated into five divisions and the area consists of open water pools, wetlands, backwater sloughs, and small impoundments. The area is an important stop along the Mississippi flyway for resting, feeding and wintering for migrating birds. More than 5 million ducks, 50,000 geese and over 200 different species of birds stop within this refuge and over 1,000 bald eagles winter in the area. Recreational opportunities for visitors include wildlife observation and photography, as well as fishing and hunting in designated areas. |
