Cross Ranch State ParkCross Ranch Centennial State Park of North Dakota is located just southeast of Hensler. The park reaches seven miles along the last of the untouched Missouri River. Teeming with both cultural and natural historic significance, it has been a landmark for preservation of the wild. Much of the Missouri River has been tamed by dams and reservoirs, but Cross Ranch State Park has kept it purely free flowing. The River Peoples Visitor Center features exhibits and information about the river. Boating is popular here and canoe rentals are available. Fishing prospects here will have anglers happily casting lines. There is an incredible trail system for hiking during the warmer season and cross country skiing during wintry times. The summer provides access through the trails to 5,000 acres of dedicated nature preserve featuring mixed grass prairie, river bottom forests, and woods. Aside from the park’s campground, which features tent and RV camping, there is a back country area open for more primitive sites. |
