Clark's Lookout State ParkDon’t let the mere seven acres of property designated to Clark’s Lookout State Park fool you - the spectacular views wallop the senses with natural beauty and historical relevance. Clark’s Lookout State Park is just one mile north of Dillon and 47 miles from the mouth of the Beaverhead River in Montana. The next boat access site up stream is Poindexter Slough. Interpretive signs explain how Lewis and Clark used methods for navigation before the hike to the lookout. In 1805, when the Lewis and Clark Expedition were passing through, the two captains were separated. Clark was here, using the lookout, while Lewis had met with 60 Shoshone warriors and was working hard to retain their cooperation. The longer Clark reveled in the view, the harder it was for Lewis to accomplish his goal. Still, it would be hard for Lewis to hold it against his partner had he seen the same sight. Clark’s Lookout State Park affords great opportunities for photography and wildlife viewing all before a quite scenic background. |
