Bannack State Park

Vacationers on the road for a truly historic experience can not afford to miss out on Bannack State Park. This registered historic landmark is located 17 miles from the mouth of Grasshopper Creek and is the site of Montana’s first major gold discovery. As the gold craze fizzled out, the population dwindled and left more than 50 buildings standing on Main Street as a ghost town. The buildings retain their historic log and frame structures. Don’t forget to visit the museum and visitor center to learn all you can about this fabulously preserved relic of early pioneer civilization. More than just a historic landmark, Bannack State Park provides a plethora of activities for its visitors. Fishing, bicycling, hiking, horseback riding, and wildlife observation are just a few of the many fun activities provided for by the park. The campgrounds host tent and RV camping sites as well as tipi rentals. Bannack State Park is a truly unique vacation spot for both the historic aficionado and the outdoors enthusiast.
