Maryhill Museum of Art

This three-story European, beaux-arts mansion overlooking the Columbia River Gorge houses a world-class collection of eclectic artwork and artifacts. The Maryhill Museum of Art in Goldendale, Washington, sits on 26 acres of manicured lawns with sculpture and rose gardens, shady picnic grounds and a backdrop of the majestic Mt. Hood. Peacocks share the property with crows, turkey, quail, blackbirds, raptors, foxes, raccoons and the occasional wily coyote. If the outdoor area isn’t breathtaking enough, come inside and see the sculptures and watercolors of French master Auguste Rodin. Move on to the memorabilia collection of Queen Marie of Romania, who was a friend of museum founder Samuel Hill. The queen, a granddaughter of Queen Victoria, dedicated the museum in 1926 and donated her crown, coronation gown, silverware and jewelry. Collections also include European and American paintings, international chess sets, Art Nouveau glass and a vast array of Native American artifacts.
