Sunset Beach State Recreation Site

Sunset Beach State Recreation Site, appropriately named, is located nearly 10 miles south of Astoria on the magnificent shores of Oregon. Visitors get the chance to experience what it was like for Lewis and Clark to travel with the Corps of Discovery from Fort Clatsop to the Pacific Ocean during the winter of 1805-1806. Hiking the 6.5 mile historic Fort-to-Sea Trail brings a sense of exhilaration as the vast waters appear at the end of the west trailhead. Sunset Beach State Recreation Site is home to 120 acres of majestic views and unique wildlife. A special treat awaits those who gaze out over the Pacific- whales and other marine mammals are often viewed here. The coastal landscape affords thrilling scenes ranging from Cape Disappointment to the north and Ecola State Park to the south. So, bring the family, drive right in and park your vehicle; the boardwalk will lead right to the beach.
