McNary National Wildlife RefugeThe 15,000 acres of the McNary National Wildlife Refuge are situated along the Columbia River in southeastern Washington, near the Snake and Walla Walla Rivers. The refuge is located in Burbank, Washington and contains riparian and wetland habitats, upland shrub-steppe and cliff-talus habitats, sloughs, streams, ponds, open water and islands and is an important migratory destination for many species of waterfowl, songbirds and shorebirds. More than half the mallards in the Pacific Flyway overwinter within this portion of the Columbia River Basin at some time. In addition to wildlife observation and photography, visitors can enjoy hiking along a self-guided interpretive nature trail, horseback riding, boating, fishing and hunting within the boundaries of the refuge. McNary NWR is a birdwatcher’s paradise! |
