Mt. Hood National ForestThe Mt. Hood National Forest is spread out over 1 million acres of land near the city of Portland, Oregon. The forest spans from the Columbia River Gorge to the Olallie Scenic Area along sixty miles of forested mountains, lakes and streams. There are many recreational activities for those who plan a trip to the area, including hiking, camping, fishing, boating, hunting, berry and mushroom picking, skiing, snowboarding and other winter outdoor activities, among others. Climbing Mt. Hood is a unique and challenging experience. There are 189,200 miles of designated wilderness land within the forest, including Mt. Hood Wilderness, Badger Creek, Salmon-Huckleberry, Hatfield and Bull-of-the-Woods. Some points of interest for those planning a vacation in the area include Timberline Lodge, Lot Lake, Trillium Lake, Timothy Lake, Rock Creek Reservoir, and the Old Oregon Trail. |
