Lolo National ForestThe two million acre Lolo National Forest is located in western Montana and is bounded by other national forests, as well as the Flathead Indian Reservation. The forest, which surrounds the city of Missoula, is one of ten national forests within the state of Montana. The influence of both continental and maritime climates results in a widely diverse set of ecosystems throughout the forest, which provide a habitat for over 60 species of mammals, 300 species of birds, more than 20 species of fish, over 20 species of trees and 1,500 species of plants. In addition, elevations vary drastically, from 2,400 ft. to over 9,000 ft. at Lolo Peak.
