Halfbreed Lake National Wildlife Refuge

Halfbreed Lake National Wildlife Refuge is located in Lewiston, Montana, and is part of the Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge. This enormous refuge contains over one million acres and extends along the Missouri River for 125 miles. The area is home to mule deer, elk, bighorn sheep, pronghorns, sage and sharp-tailed grouse, bald eagles, and many more species of wildlife. There is plenty of native prairie, river bottoms, forested coulees and badlands along the various portions of the refuge and these provide the perfect habitat for many forms of wildlife. There are excellent opportunities for viewing and photographing wildlife at the refuge, as well as hiking, horseback riding, camping, fishing and hunting. Boating can be enjoyed along the Missouri River and Fort Peck Reservoir. Since the refuge area is so large, several recreational areas and state parks can be found within the area.
