Little Missouri National GrasslandThe Little Missouri National Grassland is a part of the Dakota Prairie Grasslands which are spread over 1,259,000 acres in North Dakota and offer spectacular scenery, a myriad of wildlife species and plenty of recreational opportunities. Visitors can view whitetail and mule deer, bighorn sheep, elk, antelope, coyotes, pheasants, wild turkeys, sharptail grouse, eagles, falcons, prairie dogs and more while in the grasslands. Recreational options include hiking, horseback riding, backpacking, camping, photography, fishing, canoeing and hunting. The Little Missouri National Grasslands are characterized by stark badlands, in contrast to some of the other areas of the Dakota Prairie Grasslands where there are rolling hills or tallgrass prairie. The U.S. Forest Service manages this land. |
