Elk Point Bend Wildlife Management AreaThe Elk Point Bend Wildlife Management Area is adjacent to Ponca State Park in northeastern Nebraska. This scenic area is nestled along the bluffs that line the Missouri River. Ponca State Park, along with Elk Point Bend, includes 2,400 acres of Missouri River bottomland as well as heavily forested rolling hills. There are many types of woodland wildlife that reside in the area, including white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, coyotes, red and gray fox, bobcats, raccoons, mink, opossums, beaver, owls, many songbirds and other small mammals. During the migratory seasons, the skies are filled with birds, duck and geese, including bald eagles. The hills are also awash in color with beautiful wildflowers and plants blossoming in the spring and summer. The park offers loads of activities for visitors including more than 20 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails, a swimming pool, horseback riding, a public golf course, boating, fishing, camping facilities and many special events offered throughout the year. |
