Boyer Chute National Wildlife Refuge

Fort Calhoun, Nebraska is home to the Boyer Chute National Wildlife Refuge. The area was originally an island created from deposits of sand and sediment in the Missouri River by the Boyer River. Over time, the Missouri eroded chutes (channels) through the sediment of the island and the largest created was named the Boyer Chute. This conservation refuge includes woodlands, tallgrass prairie and wetlands which benefit the fish, migratory birds, resident wildlife and endangered species in the area. Visitors to Boyer Chute National Wildlife Refuge can enjoy observing and photographing wildlife and the surrounding beauty of nature, hiking, fishing and hunting. The refuge offers two nature trails, two pavilion shelters and fishing piers.
