St. Aubert Island Unit, Big Muddy National Wildlife RefugeLocated in Osage County, in east central Missouri, is the St. Aubert Island Unit of the Big Muddy National Wildlife Refuge. The area contains about 700 acres of bottomland and 400 acres of upland forests, as well as fields. This area of the refuge is only accessible by boat along the Missouri River. There are two separate areas of this unit along the riverbank. The area is only accessible by foot after leaving the boat at the boat dock. Visitors can enjoy viewing and photographing wildlife and the many cottonwoods, oak, hickory and maple trees surrounding the area. Fishing and hunting are allowed and all state regulations must be followed. |
